NATIONAL NIGHT OUT
National Night Out was started several years ago. The original intent was to bring law enforcement agencies and their communities together for an evening of fun and fellowship to improve relationships. Early on, it was expanded to include First Responders as a way for communities to honor these men and women for protecting us. National Night Out in the Sykesville/Eldersburg area started around 2010 – organized and chaired by a member of the Freedom District Lions Club. She became concerned about her ability to continue the event as she aged and asked us in 2019 if the Freedom District Lions Would take over responsibility for the annual event. The Board of Directors agreed to do this. The Freedom District Lions Club, Sykesville Freedom District Fire Department and the Chief of Police, Sykesville, MD have worked together to put on NNO. Everything is free to attendees. Local restaurants are asked to come and give out food. Organizations are invited to set up tables or booths and most have raffles or give aways. The Freedom District Lions Club gives away their fresh, hand-cut French Fries. The fire department has trucks and equipment on display and all law enforcement agencies are present with police cars and other equipment.
