Joining the Wreaths Across America program, Freedom District Lions Club honored our country’s veterans Saturday, December 13, 2025 at Springfield Cemetery in Sykesville, 48 other locations in Carroll County, and over 5000 other locations across the US. Wreaths used in the ceremony are constructed using hand made red bows and balsam fir branches in Maine. The Babylon Vault and Monument Company coordinates the program for Carroll County and is our primary sponsor for the third year.
Approximately 100 community members, FDLC Lions, Century and Liberty HS Leos gathered on this seasonably cold day at Springfield Cemetery and learned historical facts about the167 veterans buried there.
Lion Steve Whisler, President of the Carroll County Board of Education, was our emcee. Lion President Rich Collins was a vocalist along with a Westminster High School student who sang our national anthem.
There were four FDLC Lions and one family member of an FDLC Lion who laid a ceremonial wreath for one of our eight military service branches. A Liberty High School student performed ‘Taps’ at the conclusion of the wreath laying.
